Starfield and what the game needs to improve

Image
I have talked alot about Starfield on this blog and I feel like all criticism is tiring to deal with. Every single day, I see tons of people that are only interested in criticizing Starfield instead of trying to see what is positive with the game. This is not to say that the game is prefect. It is the first edition of a game series and I am not surprised that not everything about the game is excellent according to the discerning standards of gamers. Video gamers these days seem to be more interested in trying to engage in nostalgia than in moving the medium of video games forward and this is unfortunate.   This is what Bethesda needs to do in order to get people to come back ton Starfield and get people interested in the game again.  1. They need to add ground vehicles to the game Ground vehicles are incredibly important part of exploration of other planets, especially when it comes to interstellar exploration. Currently, as the game stands, it takes a long amount ...

Starfield and the Cottage Industry of Complaints

Image
The company that made Starfield is committed to making sure that the game succeeds, and people continue to enjoy it. They released a patch for the game a couple of days ago, and it seems like to me that Todd Howard and company are determined to see it through to make sure that it successful and that it continues to attract players. They are not just going to drop this game like so many other games have been dropped by other developers over the years. I have to say that I am very impressed with what Todd Howard and his team has managed to accomplish. There is however, another major issue that is somewhat confusing when it comes to Starfield. That issue is that the community, especially on the influential site on Reddit is flooding the internet with negativity. While the modding community has been hard at work trying to make the game better with a variety of improvements and quality of life additions, the community on Reddit has mostly been about attacking the game. The Starfield subredd...

Starfield Vs Baldur's Gate 3: A comparison of apples and oranges

Image
Starfield vs Baldur's Gate 3 The RPG, Baldur's Gate 3 remains incredibly popular after about 3 months after it release. This game has been successful in way that is stunning for a game whose predecessor came out in 2000, the year of the release of the PlayStation 2.  It is a great thing for the Gaming industry that this game is having so much success, but people have to stop comparing Baldur's Gate 3 with Starfield, especially when it comes to the gameplay. Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the best turn-based games out there, but that what it is. It is a game based on turns, which comes from an era when computers had less memory to process things. This is one of the reasons why Real-Time-Strategy was so important in the evolution of video games. Rather than holding back the action due to the lack of memory, the growth of computing power meant that the computer could process the movements of units in real-time. This was a big deal and one of the reasons why RTS were so popula...

Starfield required some 500 people to make. We should honor that hard work they made.

I have talked a lot about Starfield and how people are always criticizing it. It seems that the negativity online is more important than doing something constructive. People will always find time to attack something and as I stated in my previous articles, Starfield is going to get a lot of criticism because its another triple AAA title that the YouTube aristocrats love to hate for the sake of hating a game. It is not really that surprising that they would be attacking this game constantly while harping about some game that was made 20 years ago that no-one knows about. I am not saying that game that came out some time ago was terrible or that it is not worth playing but people have to stop using nostalgia as way of criticizing recently made games. There are going to be haters who love to attack video games. I believe that Starfield is a great game. However, people are just so cynical now, that they are more interested in criticizing. Starfield had more than 500 people making the...

Starfield and comparison to Baldur's Gate 3

Image
There have been many comments made on the Starfield subreddit recently that I generally find rather interesting to see. People have been saying that the game is barren and lacks content. I am not surprised that people are still constantly complaining about this game. With YouTube and Reddit being the way that they are, there two approaches that they take to talking about a game. One, they decide to attack the game even if the game has positive attributes to it. This happens often with games that have a lot of hype built into them. Cyberpunk 2077 was heavily hyped up on social media in the many years leading up to its release. There were even some YouTubers who were making money off the hype. However, as soon as the game came out, the negative publicity and the many bugs and glitches allowed for people to start making money off the negativity. This happens with almost every triple A game that is released by a big studio.  The other approach is the nostalgia approach to video ...

Starfield and the Issue with Expectations

Image
Starfield and the Issue of High Expectations Starfield has had to deal a lot with people having unrealistic expectations about it. People thought this was going to be next GTA or Red Dead Redemption 2 and yet Starfield is supposed to have its own identity separate from those games. People have to understand that Starfield is a new IP that is going to have some rough edges around it. This is Bethesda's first foray into the realm of Science Fiction that isn't retro like the Fallout series. Starfield has broken ground with its amazing procedural generation software has allowed for a greater variety of maps to be made. While this isn't a seamless model, its probably the best that I have seen. While it has its issues, Starfield is one of the best games of the year with incredible potential and possibilities for stories. People say that the game is boring, and the stories are lackluster; I disagree with this sentiment. Starfield doesn't have the best story but at least it...

Starfield and the Skyrim Problem

Image
Oblivion was better than Skyrim in many ways The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released some 12 years ago this year and yet it seems to be no less than relevant than today. The game has sold millions upon millions of copies, putting it up there as a gaming phenomenon that can hold its own with Street Fighter and Super Mario Brothers. It has been truly a game of the Millennials who have often been in the shadow of the Gen Xers. However, unlike the games in the 1990s, the games today seem to be taking longer to have sequels. The length of time between sequels is getting longer and longer and it is taking a toll on video game development. Some of my favorite games are taking so long that I am wondering whether these games will ever be released before being cancelled by executives who are trying to show their stockholders that the company will actually make money. This is the great dilemma that all big video game companies face. While smaller companies can make quirky games that enhanc...
