Why Jemison is the prefect starting point for Starfield's great adventure

Image
Starfield is many things to many people Starfield is many things to many people. To some, Starfield is evidence of bloat in the development of AAA games, believing that smaller studios can produce incredible games that far surpass what the big guys are capable of doing. To others, Starfield is the culmination of gaming technology that have been advancing over the past 40 to 50 years. I lean towards the latter opinion. There is no better example of Starfield's greatness than the planet Jemison. In many games, Jemison would have been a single planet among a dozen planets. However, Starfield is all about going big and truly embracing the scale that space has to offer. Some people complain about the scale of the game, especially when it comes to the planets. They say the AI generated planet landscapes are boring and lack variety. There isn't a reason to complain about planets in Starfield honestly. We have a variety of planets and environments.  Bethesda's smart decision to i...

The Status of Starfield, some thirty days in

Image
Starfield is a game that has currently been out for approximately 30 days. It has been a highly successful game that garnered much attention in the gaming press and non-gaming community at large. This is one of Bethesda's most successful games of all time and I expect that it will continue to do well on Steam and on Xbox. The game has received many accolades though some of the more popular gaming sites like IGN and Gamespot have been harsher on the game. Their criticism are based on the idea that the game is mile wild and inch deep. As I have stated before, Starfield is about the journey not the destination. Some of Gamespot's and IGN's criticism seems to be on the idea that Starfield is essentially a game that is a puddle. It has grand ambitions, but one has to remember that Bethesda has always wanted to expand the game beyond the confines of a narrative-driven environment. Starfield as of right now is game that has currently over 130,000 active players on average. This...

Starfield is about the journey not the destination

Image
The beauty in Starfield is the Journey not the Destination. There have been many complaints made about Starfield and how it takes too long to play or truly to get going. Some have criticized the game's beginning as not making sense.  These are valid criticisms. Some reviewers on YouTube and the gaming press have tended to be somewhat divergent in their criticisms, however. The reviewers on the gaming websites have tended to criticize the game for being too big with no character to it. Reviewers on YouTube tend to be more vulgar in their criticisms and tend to focus on the idea that bigger isn't necessarily the thing that we want in our games. It is important to remember that Bethesda wanted to push boundaries and make the biggest game possible. This was what was promised by the developers of No Man Sky and was ultimately a disappointment for many gamers. Bethesda was working hard to make the best game possible but also a game that could actually release unlike games like Sta...

Starfield is a success: 10 Million players playing this game

Image
Starfield is one of Xbox's greatest successes  It is no surprise that Starfield would be a successful game. Considering the amount of advertising power that placed behind this game, I would say that Bethesda has managed to outdo themselves and release something that will have cultural impact on the video game industry for years to come. It is important remember how important Starfield is to the gaming industry and to Xbox. For the video game industry, Starfield puts confidence back into gamers who were burned after the release of Cyberpunk 2077. It is also important for the Xbox gaming universe as it gives the console an important app that is boosting the sales. Overall, Starfield has been highly successful in more ways than one and that is quite accomplishment by Bethesda, which has been turning out great games year after year.  Starfield vs Baldur's Gate III However, what's more significant is that 10 million people have decided to take the jump and start playing in a gal...

Starfield is a single-player MMO

Image
I was thinking about the criticisms of Starfield which boil down to these main points. It is a boring game The game doesn't have interesting characters Starfield has a boring story that does not pull in the player.  The planets are not handcrafted and are boring There is no character to the factions Space travel is clunky and not as interesting as in other space games Combat is not very interesting The skills are not deep enough You don't feel the grandeur of space. Why Starfield is like EverQuest All these concerns are valid, but they are missing something very important. Starfield is essentially a single-player MMO game. It is not a traditional RPG game. It is not a Dragon Age or Mass Effect style game. To be honest, I would rather Starfield stick to what makes it great and not become another clone of those games. Try to be honest here. Starfield is more like EverQuest in 1999 than Mass Effect in 2007. It may sound strange that a single-player game has more in common with ...

Is Starfield essentially too big?

Image
There have been many complaints that have been lobbied against Starfield in the days leading up to the release of the game and also after the release. One of these criticisms is that the game is simply too big for players to have any attachment to the setting or the characters. I disagree with this. Starfield is a very challenging game to make. It is a game that took thousands of hours to complete and in spite of this, people are still attacking this game. It is easy to criticize but it is much harder to create anything. Todd Howard had always stated that Starfield was a dream project for him and they managed to accomplish it. Unlike Cyberpunk 2077, which was a buggy mess upon launch, Starfield was largely free from any truly memable moments except for some of the NPCS on New Atlantis and other cities in the game. Todd Howard successfully managed his team to create this incredible game, but no game is without its warts. Starfield size is an important part of the narrative that su...

Starfield and Performance on Ultra Settings for a Geforce RTX 4050

Image
Starfield on a GeForce RTX 4050 I have been playing Starfield for about two weeks now and I have to say that I am impressed with the game. It isn't prefect but no game is without its warts. This is a game that is made for people like me. I played Tie Fighter back in the early 2000s, and it was one of the best games that I have ever played. I remember after spending time with the controller and my hands would be sweaty and sticky. That's how much I love those games.  This is the game for me. I know that some of the more experienced influencers out there do not like this game for various reasons, but I believe that Starfield is a game that gets better with time. It's a slow burn and one has to really dive deep into the game to really appreciate its story and many complex systems. It is unfortunate that people are having problems with this game, but I think it is one of the greatest games that Bethesda has ever released. In comparison with Skyrim, the world seems more realiz...
